THE SLEEPING SUN

In 2025 for the Rizomes festival in Catalonia Spain, I had the pleasure of constructing and installing a habitable inflatable sun with my partner Melyssa Lim.
The concept Melyssa came up with was a large tent style inflatable, built from light weight ripstop. It’s form was realized as sun, resting on the ground, where it then was iluminated to become a waypoint experience on the grounds.
To integrate this project with the concept of temporary structures and circular building methods encouraged by the festival, the sun w constructed with its whole life in mind. Before during and after. First, constructed using a waste parachute material that had been deamed unsafe for use. Second a insatllation and symbol for the Rizomes event. And finally, after the festival ended, the material was then up-cycled into tote bags where it was sold alongside more up cycled textiles at the shop Demono.
