This pavilion, nestled in the dunes of Ocean Beach, San Fransisco, is an exercise in using parametric design to mimic the natural rhythm of a mirage in the sand. The pavilion is conceptualized in compacted dirt, interacting with the seaside climate and, over time, erodingback into the dunes.

A sculptural pavilion designed to expose its decay, and become a temporal representation of passing time.

By imagining the the ripples being broken into a grid of extrusions, setting it up becomes an easier task  of arraying components made off-site into guiding framework. Once the pavilion has decayed and is ready to disassemble, it’s only a matter of removing the framework.

Part of the success in the final product of this project is the similar concepts from original sketches that carried through, while also being able to mix with the adapted form factor that was produced out of the scripts made to model it digitally.
